What people are saying
Sally Schwartz
“As a Nadine devotee, as well as a Publish the Personal groupie, I can attest to the rigors and the rewards of this class. Over the course of six weeks, Nadine leads us in deconstructing three specific writing prompts, and then we get to work writing original pieces and submitting them.
Nadine’s method approaches the work of writing and submitting in the most helpful way: instead of writing a piece and then looking for a site to publish it, she starts with the site. We still writing creatively. But we also write smart, with an eye toward putting our work out there and having it published.
Since taking this course, I’ve had pieces published in The Sun, Brevity, Herstry, and The Sunlight Press. I wrote them, but Nadine gets credit for giving me the inspiration, and the kick, I needed.”

“I’ve been working with Nadine for the past four years, in individual coaching, participating in her weekly writer workout, and most recently, Publish the Personal class. I’ve learned so much about writing, platform building and publishing! Nadine is not only an excellent writing teacher, but the connections and friendships I’ve made have been through her classes have meant so much to me.
As a direct result from working with Nadine and participating in her classes, I’ve been published in Brevity Blog, I was a finalist in the Women on Writing CNF contest, featured on the Daring to Tell podcast, and a recent essay I wrote for Publish the Personal will be published this summer in the Star 82 Review literary magazine.”

“Nadine is everything one hopes a teacher will be: kind, thorough, and compassionate. She is an expert in her field and a master at creating a safe and thriving cohort. Not only did I learn to write, read, and submit personal essays, I also experienced their power firsthand as I was inspired and impacted by the vulnerability and authenticity of the other writers in the Zoom room. I highly recommend Nadine, and her class Publish the Personal.”
Her piece “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered” which she wrote in Publish the Personal, was a finalist for the 2022 Creative Nonfiction Essay Contest for Wow! Women on Writing.

“I've looked forward to Monday Writers Workout for two years now. Nadine's kind and gentle approach as an excellent teacher stimulates and inspires my creativity.
She also encourages us to work together non-competitively in communion, sharing resources and encouraging publication. She helps us find our unique voices.
I love her teaching style and were it not for her I might not have begun to send out my writing. I have published novels with She Writes Press: Anchor Out, A novel 2017; The Laundress, A Novel 2020; Coverstory Books, Making Marks in the Sand, an anthology of contemporary short stories, 2022 edited by Ian Gouge: Dave’s Vigil; Coverstory Books, New Contexts: 2, 2021 edited by Ian Gouge: Ode to Gravitas; Read 650, Voices of Hope, 2021, Yellow Curry and Pink Bromeliads; Readers Without Borders, The Sitting Room Anthology, 2020; essay on the novel Go, Went, Gone by Jenny Erpenbeck.”

“Nadine is the consummate professional in how she shows up, brings value, creates community, and celebrates other writers! Her ‘Publish the Personal’ was incredibly informative, inspiring, action-oriented, and fun. I would take any class Nadine offers (and I do.) She is highlighted in my memoir as well: for her fantastic writing coach guidance! Read her New York Times piece, A Memory Mea Culpa which she wrote and submitted in Publish the Personal!

“I have been working with Nadine for less than a year. I have just had my first successful essay acceptance generated from the Publish the Personal Class during Fall, 2021. However, my success is measured more in the amount of material I have generated and the confidence in doing so. Nadine is a master at giving you tools and exercises, and thus confidence to produce outstanding writing on your own.”
