Writers I've coached have published their pieces in The New York Times, Vogue, Barron's, Brevity, the Chicago Tribune, Hippocampus, Longreads, Writer's Digest, The Washington Post...the list goes on and on! They've also gotten agents and publishing contracts, and their beautiful books are now on bookstore shelves. So, if you're looking to take your writing to the next level and reach your publishing goals, manuscript consultations help you learn how to make your writing irresistible to agents, editors, and readers.

Whether you’re looking for input on a section of chapters or an entire book, I will help you take your writing to the next level by guiding you through the steps for expansion and revision. When I receive a manuscript, I draw on my 15 yrs of experience as a writing professor and coach to closely evaluate your work and give crucial written feedback on what to keep, cut, add, and move for better reader engagement. (Note: this is NOT a proofread or copy edit, though I will point out an error if it appears repeatedly). Then, you’ll join me for an encouraging consultation on Zoom where I will discuss your writing’s strengths as well as tips for polishing.

For book projects, you get 3 different types of in-depth written feedback throughout the entire MS via Google Doc comments.

Three types of feedback:

-reader feedback (I mark everything that's working. I also ask myself: Where was I excited and engaged and where was I disengaged, confused, or turned off?)

-editorial feedback (All the overarching things: is this working as a cohesive narrative? What needs to be cut, added, or moved for it to be the best narrative it can be? Does it feel unified, consistent, and well-paced? Where do threads fizzle out? What feels like a tangent? Then at the chapter level: does this feel like a full crafted, cohesive chapter? What needs to be cut, added or moved within the chapter?)

-marketplace read: from an agent's and publisher's perspective, what makes this book unique? What makes it appeal to current trends and readers? I pay special attention to the market-engagement of your first 50 pages, since you typically share your first 10 pgs during the query process and then interested agents or publishers will ask for the first 50 pgs. I also mark ideas for which chapters might make good excerpts to try to publish for traction.

*This is not a line-by-line copy edit or proofread.
